| NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation:
The FIRST Steps Program is designed to provide training with
one particular firearm model – preferably the participant’s.
Individuals who do not yet own a firearm may attend
a FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation using a firearm provided by the
instructor. If an instructor’s firearm is used, however,
participants should be advised that the operational and
handling characteristics will not be the same on a different
firearm. We would then encourage participants to consider
the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course.
The goal of the FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation is to
provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the
knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a
specific pistol model safely. Participants will be
introduced to Pistol Safety, Parts, Operation, Ammunition,
Shooting Position, Cleaning, and Storage; as well as, the
fundamentals of pistol shooting.
The course is approximately 4 hours in
length, which includes classroom and range time. This course
is typically taught in one session, however, if it is
desired that the course be taught in two sessions
arrangements can be made prior to the start of the course.
The cost of the FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation Course is
$100.00 per student. This fee will include the students
learning materials, ammunition for live-fire exercises,
range fees, safety equipment, and completion certification
